DBS Survey Finds 88% of Global Businesses Using Tokenised Money

DBS Bank reports that 88% of global businesses are deploying or piloting tokenised money, with stablecoins emerging as the most adopted instrument.

A global survey by DBS Bank reveals that 88% of businesses with annual revenues exceeding $500 million have either deployed or are piloting tokenised money use cases. The study, which polled 422 finance leaders across 11 markets, indicates that companies are using these tools to improve liquidity management and access new markets, with Southeast Asia identified as the top expansion destination.

Stablecoins are the most widely adopted instrument at 63%, followed by tokenised deposits and money market funds. Lim Soon Chong, group head of global transaction services at DBS, noted that stablecoins are popular because they offer better fungibility across payment intermediaries and are less cumbersome from a permissioning standpoint.

The data also shows increasing interest in the Chinese renminbi for trade settlement among businesses in Australia and the United Kingdom. This trend is driven by the currency's appreciation and strategic efforts by Chinese authorities to internationalize the renminbi.
