NDC Pledges to Lower Fuel Prices in 2027
The Nigeria Democratic Congress pledges to reduce energy costs and potentially restore petrol subsidies if Peter Obi wins the 2027 presidential election.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) announced plans to reduce fuel prices and potentially restore the petrol subsidy if its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is elected in 2027. Vice-presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso stated during a Channels Television appearance that the party will take all necessary measures to lower energy costs, arguing that Nigerians have not recovered from the economic shock following President Bola Tinubu's removal of the subsidy in May 2023.
This policy position aligns with a September 2026 statement from Peter Obi, who indicated that any restoration of the subsidy would only occur after the party addresses corruption within the oil sector. The NDC's platform mirrors pledges from other 2027 hopefuls, including Atiku Abubakar and Donald Duke, who have also committed to lowering fuel prices.
The party's National Publicity Secretary, the OSA Director, endorsed the leadership and promises of the NDC, asserting that a new Nigeria is possible under the party's guidance.
