Colombian billionaire Jaime Gilinski is acquiring a 500 million dollar stake and majority control of GeoPark Ltd. through a deal involving Venezuelan oil assets.
Jaime Gilinski, Colombia's wealthiest individual, is positioned to acquire majority control of GeoPark Ltd. through a strategic transaction valued at 500 million dollars. The deal centers on the Bare oil field in Venezuela, for which Gilinski obtained rights at a minimal cost.
Gilinski agreed to exchange the rights to the Bare field for a controlling stake in the Latin American crude producer. This acquisition occurs as investors increasingly bet on the recovery of the Venezuelan oil sector following years of sanctions and mismanagement. The move coincides with efforts by the Trump administration to reassert United States influence within the region.
