Eli Lilly and Company partnered with Ginkgo Bioworks to use cell programming and artificial intelligence to accelerate the drug discovery process.
Eli Lilly and Company entered into a partnership with Ginkgo Bioworks on September 15 to accelerate drug discovery through the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning. Under the agreement, Eli Lilly will utilize Ginkgo Bioworks' cell programming capabilities and a database containing billions of data points to support Lilly TuneLab, an AI-driven drug discovery initiative.
The announcement triggered a significant market reaction, causing Ginkgo Bioworks' stock value to double and raising its market capitalization to approximately $1 billion.
Despite the stock rally, Ginkgo Bioworks continues to struggle with financial instability. The company reported an operating loss of $58.5 million and a sharp revenue decline to $20.2 million for the quarter ending June 30, down from $39.1 million in the previous year.
