Osun State Holds Peaceful Governorship Election With High Turnout

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) managed the Osun State governorship election on Saturday, August 15, 2026, reporting a peaceful and orderly process. According to an official situation report, 3,556 of the 3,763 polling units, or 94.5%, opened by 8:30 a.m., while the remaining 207 units became operational by 9:00 a.m. All 332 Registration Area Centres across the state were activated by the previous Friday evening.

Voting activities included the inspection of ballot papers and the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) by party agents. In Ikire, voting began around 8:40 a.m. at the AUD School Atile polling unit, where officials provided priority accreditation for elderly voters.

Senator Ajibola Basiru, National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, praised the electoral body for the efficient deployment of personnel and materials after casting his vote in Osogbo. Basiru noted that the high voter turnout demonstrated the public's commitment to democracy.
