Eurozone Inflation Rises to 3.2 Percent in August
Eurostat reported that Eurozone inflation increased to 3.2 percent in August, driven by rising energy costs despite a softening in services and food prices.
Eurostat released final data on Thursday showing that Eurozone inflation rose to 3.2 percent in August, up from 2.9 percent in July. This final figure was a slight downward revision from the initial flash estimate of 3.3 percent.
The data revealed divergent trends across different economic sectors. Energy prices accelerated significantly, rising to 14.3 percent from 10.3 percent, while non-energy industrial goods increased by 1.2 percent. These gains were partially offset by a slowdown in other areas; services inflation softened to 3.0 percent from 3.3 percent, and the price increase for food, alcohol, and tobacco slowed to 1.1 percent.
Core inflation, which excludes volatile energy, food, alcohol, and tobacco prices, eased to 2.4 percent from 2.5 percent in July, matching previous estimates. On a monthly basis, the harmonized index of consumer prices increased by 0.4 percent.
