India Reports Energy Supply Growth and Statistical System Updates
Minister Rao Inderjit Singh announced increased primary energy supplies and the implementation of digital platforms to accelerate official data collection and publication.
Minister of State Rao Inderjit Singh announced in the Lok Sabha that India's total primary energy supply for 2024-25 is estimated at 39,055 Petajoules, rising from 37,936 Petajoules in 2023-24. Renewable energy potential saw a significant increase, reaching an estimated 4,704,043 MW by March 2025, up from 2,109,655 MW in March 2024.
To modernize data management, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation implemented digital platforms including CAPI and e-SIGMA. These systems have reduced data release lags from a period of 8-9 months to between 45 and 90 days. Singh stated that these platforms ensure consistency during data collection and allow for real-time submission and validation.
The ministry also completed base year revisions for key macroeconomic indicators. The base years for the GDP and Index of Industrial Production were updated to 2022-23, while the Consumer Price Index base year was updated to 2024.
