Israeli Strikes Kill Egyptian Aid Official Amid Gaza Ceasefire

The Israeli military killed an Egyptian aid official and several civilians in Gaza City, sparking condemnation from Egypt and the UN during a fragile ceasefire.

The Military of Israel conducted a series of targeted strikes across the Gaza Strip between July 7 and July 10, 2026, resulting in the deaths of multiple Palestinians despite a U.S.-brokered ceasefire established in October 2025. The most prominent attack occurred in the Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City, where a drone strike killed Mohammad al-Wahidi, a senior logistics official for the Egyptian Committee in Gaza. Al-Wahidi, who had been organizing public screenings for the FIFA World Cup, died alongside taxi driver Ahmed Daghmush and two children, aged 8 and 10. While the military stated the strike targeted a Hamas militant and that al-Wahidi was not the intended target, the Government of Egypt condemned the killing and opposed Israel's policy of assassinations.

Additional operations during this period targeted other militants, including Palestinian Islamic Jihad commander Rashid Al-Qadhi and Hamas sniper Abdullah Baha al-Din Razak Al-Souti. Other strikes killed civilians in Khan Younis, the Nuseirat refugee camp, and a humanitarian vehicle transporting goods from the Kerem Shalom crossing. World Central Kitchen condemned the attack on the aid vehicle, asserting that humanitarian deliveries should never be targets.

Simultaneously, the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry reported grave concerns regarding the abuse of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya by the Israel Prison Service. These escalations coincide with deadlocked ceasefire negotiations in Cairo, where Hamas chief negotiator Khalil al-Hayya sought to resolve disputes over disarmament and military withdrawal. The Gaza Health Ministry reports that over 1,000 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire began, bringing the total war death toll to approximately 73,118.
