Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri Forms Morocco's First Female-Led Government
Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri has assembled a four-party coalition government in Morocco, becoming the first woman to serve as the country's Head of Government.
Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri, leader of the Authenticity and Modernity Party, has formed a coalition government in Morocco following the September 23 legislative elections. Appointed by King Mohammed VI, El Mansouri is the first woman to hold the position of Head of Government.
The governing coalition includes the Authenticity and Modernity Party, the Istiqlal Party, the Socialist Union of Popular Forces, and the Party of Progress and Socialism. Together, these parties hold 207 seats in the 395-member House of Representatives, surpassing the 198-seat threshold required for a majority.
The new administration is tasked with a reform agenda centered on social justice, territorial equity, and economic prosperity. El Mansouri stated that consultations aimed to form a majority capable of responding to citizens' expectations regarding living conditions, rights, and freedoms. Immediate priorities include addressing youth grievances over healthcare, education, and employment, alongside managing a $20-billion infrastructure project for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
While the coalition manages domestic policy, the monarchy continues to maintain sweeping authority over foreign policy and national defense.
