Anthropic Leads US Business AI Adoption Over OpenAI
Anthropic leads US business AI adoption with 43.5% market share, though OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol model generates higher spending per user.
Anthropic maintains the lead in AI adoption among United States businesses, with 43.5% of companies paying for its products in July. According to data from the Ramp AI Index, which tracks 70,000 business customers, this exceeds the 39.7% adoption rate for OpenAI.
Despite Anthropic's broader reach, OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol model outperformed Anthropic's most expensive offering, Fable 5, in total spending. Fable 5 generated only 75% as much spend as the OpenAI model following a difficult July launch that included multiple pricing adjustments and a temporary government-ordered shutdown.
Overall business adoption is growing gradually, but total spending is increasing rapidly, primarily driven by the use of coding agents. The top 1% of AI spenders paid a median of $7,400 per employee in July. Other providers experienced mixed results, as xAI adoption rose to 4% while Google's share dipped to 6.2%.
