Starlink Launch in India Delayed by Regulatory Bottlenecks
Starlink remains unable to launch satellite internet services in India due to pending security clearances and spectrum allocation despite claims of corporate obstruction by Elon Musk.
The launch of Starlink satellite internet services in India remains stalled due to pending security clearances, spectrum allocation, and foreign investment approvals. While CEO Elon Musk alleged in October that powerful business interests were obstructing the company's entry, the Government of India dismissed those claims as "baseless and misconceived."
A report from Europinion suggests the delays stem from legitimate regulatory bottlenecks rather than corporate pushback. The report notes that domestic competitors Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel actually signed agreements in 2025 to distribute Starlink services, contradicting the narrative of industry-led obstruction.
Security concerns have complicated the approval process following the discovery of Starlink-branded devices during a 2024 drug seizure near the Andaman Islands and a security raid in Manipur. Although a government committee approved spectrum pricing in September, a final decision on allocation is still pending.
