Meta Muse AI Agent Triggers Global Stock Market Rally
Meta Platforms launched the Muse AI agent, which topped US app charts and drove a massive rally in AI and semiconductor stocks.
Following the September 2 release of the Muse Spark 1.3 model, Meta Platforms launched the Muse personal AI agent on September 9. Designed to execute complex tasks like booking travel, managing finances, and sending emails, the app quickly became the most downloaded free app on the US iOS App Store, surpassing OpenAI's ChatGPT. Meta is monetizing the tool through a freemium model with paid tiers at $20 and $100 per month.
The launch triggered a significant financial rally, with Meta shares rising over 20% since the product's debut. This surge extended to the broader AI sector, pushing the Nasdaq to record highs and driving chipmakers like AMD to a $1 trillion valuation. Analysts from JPMorgan and Wells Fargo raised price targets for Meta, citing strong early adoption and the potential for Muse to diversify revenue beyond digital advertising.
To expand the ecosystem, Meta introduced Muse Connectors for third-party developers and a Mac version that interacts directly with user files. While Shopify partnered with Meta to enable agentic checkout via Shop Pay, Amazon blocked the Muse bot from its site to protect ad revenue. Despite the commercial success, the rollout faced hurdles, including internal reports of safety guardrail failures and external concerns over the agent's access to sensitive financial data. Meta plans to release an encrypted virtual machine later this year to address these privacy risks.
