Madhya Pradesh Farmers March to Bhopal Over Moong Procurement

Thousands of farmers organized by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha and the Krantikari Kisan Mazdoor Sangathan Youth Wing marched from Narmadapuram toward Bhopal starting July 28, 2026. The protesters are demanding 100 percent procurement of moong crops at the Minimum Support Price (MSP). This follows a central government cap on procurement at 4.54 lakh metric tonnes, despite a projected harvest of 20.16 lakh metric tonnes.

During the march, protesters breached police barricades near the Obdullahganj area and attempted to gherao the residence of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. While some farmers reached the vicinity of Baratullah University, others staged a sit-in on the Bhopal-Narmadapuram highway after police blocked further movement toward the residence. The blockade forced the closure of several schools in Bhopal and required extensive traffic diversions.

Farmers also demanded the withdrawal of a dysfunctional e-token system, requesting that fertilizers be distributed based on land records. In response to the unrest, State Agriculture Minister Aidal Singh Kansana requested Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to raise the procurement ceiling to 8.06 lakh metric tonnes and reallocate unused quotas from other states. As of July 29, protesters remain camped on the Bhopal-Hoshangabad road, vowing to continue the movement until their demands are met.
