OpenAI Integrates Cerebras Technology into GPT-5.6 Sol
OpenAI has integrated Cerebras systems into its GPT-5.6 Sol model to increase processing speeds, driving a 15 percent rise in Cerebras shares.
Cerebras Systems shares rose 15 percent on Monday after reports indicated that OpenAI is expanding its use of the company's chip-powered technology. OpenAI integrated Cerebras systems into the Ultrafast version of GPT-5.6 Sol, a model that processes requests up to 14 times faster than standard modes.
This high-speed feature is currently available to a limited group of customers, including Jane Street, Podium, Basis, and Rogo, for applications in security, financial analysis, and live research. The integration follows a $20 billion agreement reached in April, under which Cerebras supplies systems over three years and OpenAI contributes approximately $1 billion toward the development of Cerebras data centers.
According to analysis from Wedbush Securities, OpenAI has committed to using 750 megawatts of Cerebras capacity by 2028. The current contract includes options to extend the partnership through 2030.
