Bristol Myers Squibb is deploying Nvidia's Vera Rubin architecture to create a high-performance AI factory for accelerating drug discovery and development.

Bristol Myers Squibb is building a high-performance artificial intelligence factory for life sciences through an expanded partnership with Nvidia. The company is the first in the life sciences sector to purchase an Nvidia DGX SuperPOD based on the new Vera Rubin architecture, specifically deploying DGX Vera Rubin NVL72 systems to handle larger and more sophisticated AI workloads.

The investment aims to accelerate drug discovery timelines across neuroscience, immunology, cardiovascular, hematology, and oncology programs. The company has already implemented a Predict First methodology and automated target identification to increase confidence in clinical proof of concept decisions. Chief research officer Robert Plenge stated the new system allows the company to evaluate dozens of potential drug candidates early in the cycle instead of ten.

Beyond drug discovery, the company uses AI to reduce the time required to manufacture medicines for clinical trials by 20% to 30%, with a future goal of 50%. Chief digital and technology officer Greg Meyers noted that the new infrastructure provides ten times more compute capacity per watt, addressing rising electricity costs and growing compute demands.
