U.S. Pending Home Sales Drop 11.3 Percent Year-over-Year
Pending home sales in the United States fell 7.3 percent from August, though the decline has not yet triggered a broader economic recession.
The United States housing market continues to show signs of weakness as pending home sales fell 7.3 percent from August. This decline represents an 11.3 percent drop compared to the previous year.
Despite the downturn in real estate sales, the sector's influence on the broader business cycle has diminished. Housing now accounts for a smaller share of overall economic activity than in previous cycles, while services and consumer spending have become more dominant drivers of the economy.
Because of this shift in economic composition, the current softness in the housing market has not yet posed a meaningful threat of a recession.
