North Korea Accuses NATO of Preparing for War
North Korea claims NATO is preparing for war by expanding a 10,000-km military fuel infrastructure network across Europe.
The Government of North Korea accused NATO on August 1 of preparing for war through the expansion of its military fuel infrastructure across Europe. In a commentary released via the North Korean Central News Agency, the state criticized the Fuel Supply Chain Capability Programme Plan, alleging that the 10,000-km network linking western, eastern, and northern Europe indicates the alliance is becoming a more aggressive military bloc.
North Korea further claimed the project is designed to support conflicts outside of Europe, although the commentary provided no evidence for this assertion. NATO responded by stating the fuel plan is intended to strengthen deterrence and defense following the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.
This escalation occurs as North Korea deepens military ties with the Federal Government of Russia. The two nations signed a mutual-defense treaty in June 2024, and North Korea deployed approximately 14,000 troops to Russia's Kursk Region in 2024.
