BNP Paribas Reports Q3 Net Income Rise to €3.46 Billion

BNP Paribas exceeded analyst forecasts with a 14% increase in third-quarter net income and announced a €1.3 billion share buyback for November.

BNP Paribas reported a 14% increase in third-quarter net income to €3.46 billion, surpassing analyst expectations of €3.23 billion. The euro zone's largest bank by assets generated €13.76 billion in revenue for the quarter, driven by a 17% rise in overall sales within its corporate and institutional banking unit and a 50% surge in equity and prime services revenue.

Following these results, the bank announced a €1.3 billion share buyback scheduled for November. Management cited the early achievement of its Common Equity Tier 1 capital ratio as the basis for the buyback.

Addressing concerns over the fiscal position of France and rising sovereign bond yields, the bank stated its exposure to French government debt was limited to approximately €19 billion as of late September. CEO Jean-Laurent Bonnafé identified the corporate and institutional banking unit as a critical driver of the bank's recent success.
