Volkswagen Delays ID Buzz US Return to 2028 Model

Volkswagen delayed the return of the ID Buzz electric minivan to the United States market, skipping both the 2026 and 2027 model years. The vehicle is now scheduled to arrive in the first half of 2027 as a 2028 model.

This second consecutive delay follows a brief initial launch in November 2024 that struggled with lukewarm demand. Only 6,140 units were sold in 2025, hampered by a starting price of nearly $60,000, a limited range of just over 200 miles, and the loss of the $7,500 federal tax credit. The company is also managing high import tariffs on European cars implemented in spring 2025.

Volkswagen intends to use the extended timeline to bundle several customer-focused enhancements into a single launch rather than releasing staggered updates. The 2028 model will feature the North American Charging Standard port, updated software, bidirectional charging, and digital key access. Additional updates include physical steering wheel buttons and a camping-focused Tourer trim package for adventure use.
