Reese Witherspoon and Mediawan Acquire Hello Sunshine from Candle Media
Reese Witherspoon partnered with Paris-based Mediawan to acquire Hello Sunshine from Candle Media, integrating the studio into a global network of production labels.
Reese Witherspoon partnered with the Paris-based content group Mediawan to acquire Hello Sunshine from Candle Media. Witherspoon, the founder of Hello Sunshine, is investing alongside Mediawan and will join the company's board together with co-founder Seth Rodsky and Mediawan representatives.
The acquisition integrates Hello Sunshine into Mediawan's ecosystem of more than 100 production labels, which includes Plan B Entertainment and Chernin Entertainment. Candle Media, backed by Blackstone, previously held a controlling stake in the studio. The sale occurs as streaming platforms shift their focus from subscriber growth toward sustainable profit, creating a challenging economic environment for content suppliers.
Mediawan CEO Pierre-Antoine Capton stated the move strengthens the group's ability to provide talent and buyers with a broader pool of resources and intellectual property. Reese’s Book Club, which has generated approximately $900 million in U.S. book sales, will continue to serve as a core strategy for discovering and developing new stories.
