Wealth of Top 0.1% of Americans Doubles Since 2019
The wealthiest 0.1% of Americans now control $28 trillion in assets, driven by a stock-market boom that has widened the national wealth gap.
The wealthiest 0.1% of Americans have more than doubled their total wealth since the end of 2019, according to data from the Federal Reserve System. This group now controls approximately $28 trillion, representing 15% of the total national wealth, with average household wealth exceeding $200 million.
A stock-market boom drove the majority of this increase, adding roughly $10 trillion to the net worth of the ultrawealthy over the period. In the single year ending June 30, the top 0.1% gained nearly $4 trillion from market growth alone.
While the bottom 50% of Americans experienced percentage gains through pandemic-era relief and rising home values, they hold only 2.3% of the nation's total wealth. This widening disparity has fueled political shifts, contributing to the rise of Democratic socialist figures such as New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
