Democrats Narrow Gaps in Tight Anne Arundel Council Races

Democratic candidates Natalie Ogilvie and Spencer Jones reduced their deficits against Republican opponents after the first day of mail-in ballot counting in Anne Arundel County.

Democratic candidates Natalie Ogilvie and Spencer Jones narrowed their deficits against Republican opponents in two contested Anne Arundel County Council races following the first day of mail-in ballot counting on Thursday.

In District 5, Ogilvie reduced her gap against incumbent Republican Amanda Fiedler to 32 votes. In District 7, Jones trails Republican Dawn Pulliam by 784 votes, a significant decrease from his previous deficit of 1,379. The results of these two seats will determine the council's power structure; while Democrats currently hold a 4-3 majority, winning both races would grant them a 6-1 majority and the ability to override county executive vetoes.

The Anne Arundel County Board of Elections reports that 25,000 mail-in ballots and 7,500 provisional ballots remain to be processed. Deputy Director Rich Siejack has scheduled canvassing for Saturday, November 8, Tuesday, November 10, and Thursday, November 12 for provisional ballots. Final certification of the results is expected by November 16.
