Amazon Creates Thousands of Seasonal Jobs in India and Australia

Amazon is expanding its global workforce to handle anticipated surges in customer demand during the 2026 festive and holiday seasons. In India, the company created more than 160,000 seasonal roles across 400 cities, including major metros and smaller hubs like Varanasi, Kochi, and Jalandhar. This represents an increase of 10,000 positions over the previous year. These roles support e-commerce and the rollout of the Amazon Now quick-commerce service, with a focus on including women and persons with disabilities.

To support the Indian workforce, the company is expanding its driver rest centers to 250 locations nationwide through its Sammaan and Ashray welfare initiatives. This hiring push occurs alongside similar industry moves, such as competitor Meesho's plan to enable over 1 million seasonal jobs.

Simultaneously, the company is recruiting 3,000 seasonal workers and thousands of delivery drivers via Amazon Flex in Australia for Prime Big Deal Days, Black Friday, and Christmas. These positions are distributed across New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, and Western Australia, offering starting pay of approximately $35 per hour. While the company continues to integrate robotics into its warehouses, leadership maintains that human labor remains essential for picking, packing, and stowing items.
