Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Inspects Heat Smart School Pilot
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited a climate-responsive school project in New Delhi to evaluate measures protecting students from extreme heatwaves.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta led a high-level delegation on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, to visit the 'Heat Smart School' pilot project at Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya in New Delhi. The initiative is a joint effort between the Delhi Government, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), and GIZ India to protect students from extreme heatwaves.
During the inspection, the delegation reviewed several climate-responsive interventions, including the installation of cool roofs, shaded corridors, and upgraded drinking water facilities. Gupta stated that the safety and well-being of children is the government's top priority and expressed plans to expand the pilot model to other schools across the capital.
National Disaster Management Authority Member Secretary Krishna S Vatsa noted that heatwaves are among the fastest-growing climate-induced hazards in India. He emphasized the need to institutionalize climate adaptation within public infrastructure. Central-North District Magistrate Shailendra Singh Parihar described the school project as a practical extension of the broader Delhi Heat Action Plan.
