Baloch National Movement Reports Human Rights Abuses to UN

Leaders of the Baloch National Movement (BNM), led by Chairman Naseem Baloch, met with United Nations officials in Geneva on September 23 to report grave human rights abuses in Balochistan. The delegation submitted a six-month human rights report and a dossier on enforced disappearances, prepared by the human rights body Paank, to Grazyna Baranowska, Chair-Rapporteur of the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances.

The BNM urged UN mechanisms to ignore claims from the Government of Pakistan and take practical steps toward accountability. Simultaneously, the Hague-based Global Human Rights Defence addressed the 63rd Session of the UN Human Rights Council. The organization accused Pakistani authorities of carrying out arbitrary detentions and reprisals against students and activists, calling for the immediate disclosure of the fate of disappeared persons.
