Ashley Hinson and Josh Turek Vie for Iowa Senate Seat
Republican Ashley Hinson and Democrat Josh Turek are campaigning for a vacant U.S. Senate seat in Iowa ahead of the November 3 election.
Republican U.S. Representative Ashley Hinson is campaigning for a U.S. Senate seat in Iowa, seeking to succeed Senator Joni Ernst, who declined a reelection bid. Hinson is running on a platform that emphasizes strict immigration enforcement, reduced spending in coordination with Donald Trump, and health care reform. Her health care proposals include increasing insurance coverage for early detection and establishing a $50 billion federal fund for rural health care.
During her Fighting for Iowa tour, Hinson held a coffee and conversation event in Glenwood with Ernst. Hinson has also advocated for local-level decision-making regarding data centers and a swift conclusion to the conflict with Iran to avoid a forever war.
Democratic candidate Josh Turek, a member of the Iowa House of Representatives and two-time Paralympian, is attempting to flip the seat via his At the Buzzer Tour, with recent stops in Council Bluffs and Dallas County. Libertarian candidate Thomas Laehn is also competing in the race. Both Hinson and Turek have engaged with local farmers regarding tariffs and the Iran conflict.
Polling for the November 3 election remains mixed. Marist and YouGov polls show Turek leading, while Emerson and Trafalgar Group polls place Hinson ahead. The race is a key component of the broader midterm struggle for control of the U.S. Senate, where Republicans currently hold a 53-47 majority.
