Japan Industrial Output Rises 0.8 Percent in April
Japan's industrial output grew 0.8 percent in April, ending a two-month decline and surpassing forecasts with gains in electronics and machinery.
Japan's industrial output rose by a seasonally adjusted 0.8 percent in April compared to the previous month, breaking a two-month downward trend. The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry reported that yearly output grew by 2.3 percent, exceeding analyst expectations that had predicted a 0.4 percent monthly decline.
Growth was primarily driven by electrical machinery, information and communication electronics equipment, and general-purpose and business-oriented machinery. Conversely, production fell in the motor vehicle and petroleum and coal products sectors.
Despite the April rebound, the ministry characterized industrial production as continuing to "fluctuate indecisively." Future projections based on a manufacturer survey suggest a significant 5.1 percent increase in May, followed by a modest 0.4 percent decrease in June.
