Construction Worker Transitions to Six-Figure Tech Sales Career

Bryan Ruiz transitioned from construction to tech sales through self-study and specialized training, moving from a $30,000 starting salary to a six-figure income.

Bryan Ruiz, a 27-year-old professional in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, transitioned from the construction industry to tech sales to move away from physical labor and hourly pay caps. After utilizing YouTube, podcasts, and a CourseCareers training program, Ruiz entered the tech sector in January 2024.

Ruiz initially accepted a significant pay cut, dropping from approximately $50,000 in construction to $30,000 during his first year in sales. He progressed through entry-level roles to become an account executive and eventually secured a position at a SaaS company, where he is now on track to earn over six figures.

Ruiz credits his success to the social awareness and work ethic he developed in construction, though he identifies the management of frequent rejection as the most difficult part of his new career. He stated, "I started thinking about pursuing a career where I'm really rewarded for the amount of work I put in."
