ASML CEO Says First High-NA Chip Products Arriving Within Months

Christophe Fouquet, chief executive of ASML, announced that the first semiconductor products manufactured using the company's new High-NA machines are expected to arrive within the next few months. Speaking at a conference in Belgium organized by the research firm imec, Fouquet stated that the High-NA technology will reduce patterning costs for the circuitry of advanced logic and memory chips.

The announcement addresses ongoing industry concerns about the economics of next-generation chipmaking equipment. TSMC, one of ASML's largest customers, recently raised concerns about the high cost of the High-NA tools, which can reach $400 million per unit. Fouquet's projection that the first products are imminent signals that the technology is moving from development into production, potentially validating the investment despite the steep price tag.

High-NA, or high numerical aperture, lithography represents ASML's latest generation of extreme ultraviolet chipmaking systems. The machines are designed to print even smaller circuit features than current EUV tools, enabling more powerful and efficient semiconductors. By reducing patterning costs for advanced logic and memory chips, the technology could help offset its upfront expense over time.

The timeline of the next few months for first products marks a concrete milestone for the technology's commercial rollout. If the chips arrive as projected, it would demonstrate that leading chipmakers are successfully integrating the expensive new tools into their manufacturing lines despite earlier reservations about cost.
