Andhra Pradesh Secures 6.5 GW Data Center Capacity

The Government of Andhra Pradesh has secured agreements to establish 6.5 gigawatts of data center compute capacity, moving the projects into the execution phase. Human Resources Development Minister Nara Lokesh announced the achievement during the 13th Annual Forum 2026: India 3.0, confirming the state has met its target for compute capacity.

As part of this expansion, the state is overseeing a Google AI data center project, which Lokesh stated is underway and will be completed on time. To address environmental concerns, the government plans to source water from sustainable outlets to ensure that the projects do not deplete municipal or farming supplies. Additionally, the state intends for 70% of the energy used by these centers to come from renewable sources.

Lokesh emphasized that these projects will serve as a catalyst for economic growth in Visakhapatnam and across India. To support this infrastructure, he called for a transformation of educational curricula to prepare the local workforce for employment in AI and quantum technologies.
