Rigathi Gachagua Urges Foreign Investors and Tourists to Avoid Kenya

Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua urged foreign investors and tourists to avoid Kenya until next year, citing rising insecurity and the presence of goons. Speaking during a church service at ACK St. Thomas Cathedral in Kerugoya, Gachagua linked the country's instability to the administration of President William Ruto. He characterized a recent DCP victory in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election as a preview for the 2027 General Election, warning that visitors could be caught up in the volatile political situation.

Government and political officials condemned the remarks as damaging to the national economy. Tourism Principal Secretary Julius Bitok described the call as irresponsible, noting that tourism contributes nearly 10 percent of Kenya's GDP and should remain insulated from partisan politics.

The Jubilee Party also rejected the statements, arguing that such calls harm millions of workers in the hospitality, transport, and conservation sectors. While acknowledging frustrations over governance and insecurity, Secretary-General Moitalel Ole Kenta stated that political pursuits for change must not undermine the national interest or erode confidence in the Republic of Kenya.
