Citigroup Partners With Coinbase for Corporate Stablecoin Payments
Citigroup partnered with Coinbase Global to allow corporate and multinational clients to accept stablecoin payments and convert them into government-issued currency.
Citigroup partnered with Coinbase Global to enable its large corporate and multinational clients to accept stablecoin payments from customers. Under the agreement, Coinbase provides the blockchain technology and payment rails to automatically convert digital currencies into government-issued currency, while Citigroup settles the funds as the bank of record.
The initiative aims to integrate digital assets into the traditional economy to facilitate faster and cheaper international payments. This partnership proceeds despite the recent failure of the Clarity Act in the U.S. Senate, which was intended to accelerate digital asset adoption.
Simultaneously, the bank is expanding its proprietary token services into Japan and the United Arab Emirates. These services allow multinational corporations to move funds instantly across the Citigroup network.
