Bangladesh and South Korea Form Investment Working Group
Bangladesh and South Korea agreed to establish a joint government-private sector working group to expand bilateral trade and investment in technology and logistics.
A high-level Bangladeshi delegation led by Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury visited Seoul to expand bilateral trade and investment. During the visit, Chowdhury and South Korean Trade Minister Park Jung-sung agreed to establish a joint government-private sector working group to identify investment opportunities following the conclusion of negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
The working group will include government agencies and chambers of commerce to focus on business facilitation, priority reforms, and public-private partnerships. Minister Chowdhury proposed expanding cooperation into semiconductors, artificial intelligence, shipbuilding, and renewable energy, while noting Bangladesh's efforts to reduce customs duties and digitalize its investment climate. Minister Park reaffirmed South Korea's commitment to the partnership but raised operational concerns regarding Korean businesses operating in Bangladesh.
Parallel to government talks, the Youngone Group and the Federation of Korean Industries hosted the delegation to promote private-sector ties. The delegation met with executives from Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Glovis, and Hanwha Ocean to explore cooperation in electronics, automotive logistics, and maritime infrastructure. Planned visits to LG AI Research, FuriosaAI, and Busan Port aim to further explore artificial intelligence and logistics integration.
