Berkshire Hathaway Holds Indirect SpaceX Stake via Alphabet
Berkshire Hathaway maintains an indirect stake in SpaceX worth over $800 million through its $38 billion investment in Alphabet Inc.
Berkshire Hathaway holds an indirect stake in SpaceX valued at more than $800 million. This look-through position is a result of the conglomerate's roughly 0.9% stake in Alphabet Inc., which is valued at approximately $38 billion as of June 30. Alphabet Inc. owns about 4% of the aerospace company SpaceX.
This indirect holding exists despite years of public appeals from Elon Musk for Warren Buffett to invest directly in SpaceX or Tesla. Buffett, who stepped down as CEO at the start of 2026 but remains chairman, has historically avoided the high valuations associated with Musk's ventures, favoring more mature businesses instead.
Alphabet Inc. currently stands as the third-largest stock holding for Berkshire Hathaway, trailing only Apple and American Express. The stake in Alphabet was established during the third quarter of 2025.
