Nigeria and China Sign Creative and Tech Cooperation Pacts
The Nigerian Television Authority and China Movie Channel signed a strategic creative industry pact alongside new agreements to boost Nigerian agricultural exports through Chinese technology.
The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the China Movie Channel (CMC) signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Abuja to expand collaboration in film, broadcasting, and digital media. The pact, finalized during the China-Nigeria Film and Literature Symposium, focuses on content co-production, professional training, and technology transfer. Officials noted the partnership leverages the strengths of China's vast cinema infrastructure and Nigeria's Nollywood industry to reach new audiences, potentially utilizing AI-powered translation tools for cross-border engagement.
These creative agreements coincided with the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations and the 2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges. During the "Seasonal Life & Harmonious China" Cultural Exhibition, the partnership expanded into the scientific and agricultural sectors. The Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology announced plans to implement Chinese technology transfer to process raw commodities—such as cassava, shea butter, and cashew nuts—into value-added products.
To support these goals, Nigeria aims to develop solar-powered cold storage to reduce post-harvest losses and expand STEM scholarships at Chinese universities. These initiatives seek to utilize China's zero-tariff policy for 53 African countries to increase Nigerian agricultural market access. Together, these agreements align with the Global Civilisation Initiative and Nigeria's strategy to use creative and scientific industries as primary drivers for job creation and economic growth.
