DSA Platform Calls for Abolition of U.S. Senate and Electoral College

The Democratic Socialists of America released a political platform seeking to replace the U.S. parliamentary system and abolish the police and prison systems.

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) released a political platform outlining structural overhauls for the United States government. The organization proposes replacing the current two-party system with a parliamentary system, erasing the Electoral College, and abolishing the U.S. Senate. The platform also calls for the expansion or replacement of the Supreme Court to ensure the judiciary is more subservient to Congress.

Economically, the DSA advocates for a 32-hour work week, free college, paid leave, and substantial increases to the minimum wage. The organization further demands the implementation of slavery reparations and the establishment of open borders with a path to citizenship for all undocumented immigrants.

On the issue of criminal justice, the group seeks the total abolition of the police and prison systems. Co-chair Ashik Siddique supported this move, stating that the current system is "stacked toward persecuting poor people" and protects capital over people.
