China Warns Philippines Over South China Sea Intrusions
China's Ministry of National Defense accused the Philippines of provocative maritime maneuvers and warned that relying on external forces would be self-defeating.
Zhang Xiaogang, a spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense of the People's Republic of China, issued a warning on April 9 regarding Philippine maritime activities. He alleged that Philippine forces intruded into airspace and waters adjacent to Scarborough Shoal and the Nansha Qundao islands and reefs, entered Chinese training zones, and performed dangerous maneuvers near Chinese vessels.
Zhang stated that these actions increase insecurity and instability in the Asia-Pacific region. He specifically urged the Philippines to stop relying on external forces to stir up trouble at sea, claiming such a strategy is fruitless. The Chinese government pledged to take resolute countermeasures to safeguard its territorial sovereignty and maritime interests against further provocations.
