Reuters and AP Demand Accountability for Gaza Hospital Strike

The Associated Press and Reuters issued a joint statement on August 26, 2026, demanding accountability from the Israeli government for an August 25 strike on Nasser Hospital in Gaza. The attack killed more than 20 people, including five journalists: Hussam al-Masri, Mariam Dagga, Moaz Abu Taha, Mohammad Salama, and Ahmed Abu Aziz.

The news agencies emphasized that the journalists were killed at a protected medical facility. The Israel Defense Forces acknowledged the double-tap strike and expressed regret for harm to "uninvolved individuals," but denied deliberately targeting journalists and promised an inquiry.

Reuters also renewed demands for an explanation regarding the October 2023 death of journalist Issam Abdallah in southern Lebanon. These demands follow a February report from the Committee to Protect Journalists stating that Israel was responsible for two-thirds of the 129 journalists killed worldwide in 2025.
