INEC Assures Nigerians All Votes Will Count in 2027

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) assured Nigerian citizens that every vote will count in the upcoming 2027 general elections. During a democracy roundtable in Abuja, the commission committed to protecting the will of the electorate through the deployment of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal.

Magdalene Aku, INEC Deputy Director of Voter Education and Planning, stated that the commission is focused on the voters and emphasized the need for inclusivity for vulnerable groups. She specifically warned citizens against selling their ballots, questioning why individuals would sell their votes if they believed they did not matter.

Representatives from the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council and the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) called for stronger partnerships with INEC to combat misinformation and improve voter education. Grace Ike, Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, stressed that electoral credibility is a shared responsibility and demanded full disclosure regarding the testing of election technology. To ensure transparency, the NUJ FCT Council announced plans to establish an Election Situation Room to monitor developments and verify reports throughout the 2027 election cycle.
