Apple MacBook Neo Teardown Reveals Modular Repairable Design

A teardown of the MacBook Neo, a new budget-oriented laptop from Apple, reveals a modular internal design that marks a shift toward higher repairability for the company. The analysis, conducted by the Australian repair channel Tech Re-Nu, shows that the device avoids the heavy adhesives and proprietary pentalobe screws common in previous Mac models, using standard T3, T5, and T8 Torx screws instead.
Key components such as the battery, speakers, and audio jack are easily removable, and the keyboard can be replaced without requiring the removal of the entire top case. While the logic board remains soldered, which prevents users from upgrading RAM or storage, the overall architecture is designed for ease of service and longevity.
Apple is targeting the education market with the device, pricing it starting at $499 for education buyers. To support these users, the laptop is powered by an A18 Pro-derived chip optimized for AI tasks.
