UK Launches Online Tool for Pension Tax Reclaims
HM Revenue and Customs launched an online tool to help taxpayers identify how to reclaim overpaid tax on their pensions.
The Government of the United Kingdom launched an online tool through HM Revenue and Customs to help taxpayers identify if they are eligible to reclaim overpaid tax on their pensions. The tool guides users to the appropriate reclamation process based on their individual circumstances, though it does not allow for digital submission; claimants must still submit physical forms to complete the process.
Eligible individuals include those who have flexibly accessed their entire pension after stopping work, those who took a small pension lump sum, or those seeking Income Tax refunds on pension death benefit lump sum payments. The government stated that repayments will be processed via Faster Payments into a bank account held by the claimant or a nominee.
To ensure accuracy, officials will conduct a final verification check at the end of the tax year to confirm the correct amount was refunded and will contact taxpayers if adjustments are necessary.
