Baloch Republican Guards Attack Power Grid in Balochistan

The Baloch Republican Guards destroyed electricity towers in Nasirabad as a report links province-wide instability to resource exploitation and poor governance.

The Baloch Republican Guards claimed responsibility for destroying two 220 kV electricity towers in the Piru Pul area of Nasirabad, damaging two additional towers in the process. A spokesperson for the group, Dosteen Baloch, stated that these attacks on the power grid will continue until Balochistan achieves independence from Pakistan.

These militant actions coincide with a report from the Afghan Diaspora Network, which identifies poor governance and resource exploitation as the primary drivers of deprivation in the province. The report asserts that the federal government treats the region as a security issue while ignoring socio-economic causes of unrest. It further alleges that Chinese entities and residents of Punjab and Sindh profit from the province's gold, copper, and port resources while the local population suffers.

Balochistan currently records the highest poverty rate in Pakistan, with 47% of its residents living below the poverty line.
