Tom Cruise Film Digger Faces $245 Million Loss
Warner Bros faces a projected $245 million loss on the eco-fable Digger after the Tom Cruise film failed to reach its break-even point.
The eco-fable Digger, starring Tom Cruise and directed by Alejandro G Iñárritu, is projected to lose approximately $245 million, marking it as one of the largest financial failures in cinema history. The film has earned $35.3 million at the global box office, with a projected final total of $50 million, falling far short of its break-even requirements.
Financial estimates vary between sources. Variety estimates production costs between $160 million and $180 million with an additional $100 million spent on marketing. However, Warner Bros claims a $150 million production spend and asserts the break-even point is $300 million.
The failure occurs during a difficult 2026 for the studio, which is currently preparing for a takeover by David Ellison's Skydance. In an attempt to salvage the release, the studio launched an advertising campaign that highlighted negative reviews, but the strategy failed to attract audiences.
