Transition Monitoring Group Warns Against Overturning Osun Election Results
The Transition Monitoring Group urged politicians not to use legal technicalities to overturn the August 15 Osun State governorship election results.
The Transition Monitoring Group warned politicians against using electoral litigation and legal technicalities to overturn the results of the August 15 Osun State governorship election. In a statement signed by Chairman Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, the group urged the judiciary to protect the genuine mandate of voters to prevent court processes from becoming a tool for subverting the will of the electorate.
The group commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for the relatively smooth conduct of the election. TMG specifically praised the real-time uploading of results to the INEC Result Viewing Portal under the leadership of Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan.
Despite these technological gains, the group emphasized that political actors must be held accountable for electoral offenses, including intimidation and vote buying. TMG called for the consolidation of these transparency measures in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
