Thailand Inflation Hits 3.9 Percent in October

Thailand's consumer price index rose 3.9 percent in October, exceeding the central bank's target ceiling for the first time in over three years.

Thailand's consumer price index rose 3.9 percent in October from a year earlier, marking the first time in more than three years that inflation has breached the target ceiling of 3 percent set by the Bank of Thailand. This figure represents a significant acceleration from the 2.82 percent rate recorded in September and surpassed the median economist estimate of 3.33 percent.

The Ministry of Commerce attributed the price surge to rising oil costs and increased food prices caused by recent floods. While the current rate has moved beyond the central bank's established target range of 1 percent to 3 percent, government officials indicated that the spike may be temporary.
