Euro Area Trade Balance Returns to Surplus in June
Eurostat reports the euro area trade balance returned to a surplus of EUR 8.6 billion in June, marking the first surplus since March.
Eurostat reported that the euro area trade balance returned to a surplus in June, recording EUR 8.6 billion. This recovery follows a EUR 9.0 billion shortfall in May and represents the first surplus for the region since March.
The shift resulted from increased surpluses in food, drink, chemicals, and other manufactured goods, which offset a widening energy deficit. Annual export growth reached 14.4 percent, while imports rose by 13.1 percent. On a monthly basis, exports increased by 0.9 percent and imports declined by 2.1 percent.
Despite the June rebound, the overall trade performance for the first half of the year showed a significant decline. The total trade surplus for the period dropped to EUR 9.8 billion, a sharp decrease from the EUR 82.2 billion surplus recorded during the same period in the previous year.
