Green Party Leader Identifies as Anti-Zionist Ahead of Motion

Zack Polanski, leader of the Green Party, declared himself an anti-Zionist as the party prepares to debate a motion stating that Zionism is racism.

Green Party leader Zack Polanski has identified as an anti-Zionist as his party prepares to debate a motion declaring that "Zionism is racism." The motion was proposed by Greens for Palestine, a group linked to former University of Bristol professor David Miller.

Miller previously had his view that Zionism is a "racist, violent, imperialist ideology" ruled as a protected philosophical belief by a British employment tribunal. The upcoming debate focuses on whether Zionism is a movement for Jewish self-determination and a refuge from persecution or a colonial project that created an apartheid system and displaced Palestinians.

This ideological framing mirrors UN Resolution 3379, which equated Zionism with racism in 1975 before its revocation in 1991. Opponents of the motion argue that denying Jewish self-determination is antisemitic, while proponents cite discriminatory systems and the rhetoric of senior Israeli political figures following the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks.
