Molendotech to Launch AI Water Quality Maps in October

Molendotech will launch live water quality maps in the UK and US using AI and portable testing kits to track bacterial contamination.

Molendotech, a University of Plymouth spinout, will launch live water quality maps in the United Kingdom and the United States in October. The company uses its Bactiquick handheld device to detect endotoxins from gram-negative bacteria, including salmonella and E coli, in less than 15 minutes.

The upcoming application will employ artificial intelligence to combine daily test data with tidal flows and rain patterns to generate predictive water quality models. This technology aims to address public health concerns following reports from Surfers Against Sewage, which recorded 164 cases of sickness among beachgoers this year.

To support its expansion into Australia, New Zealand, and North America, the company recently raised £860,000 from investors including QantX and the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Investment Fund. This latest round brings the company's total investment to £2.4 million, supplementing £1.4 million in grant funding provided in part by Innovate UK.
