ACORE CEO Urges 166 Gigawatts of New Power by 2030

The President and CEO of ACORE, Ray Long, is calling for a pragmatic and non-partisan approach to United States energy policy to address a critical power supply shortage. Long warns that the nation must add 166 gigawatts of new electricity supply by 2030 to avoid price spikes and rolling blackouts caused by advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and extreme weather.

Drawing on a forecast from Grid Strategies, Long advocates for a technologically neutral strategy. He argues that the government should prioritize predictable regulatory standards and stable policy over partisan preferences for specific energy sources. While he notes that storage and solar currently represent the most attractive investments, he emphasizes that a diverse power mix is necessary for grid resilience.

Long suggests that this diversity is critical because other emerging technologies, such as geothermal and new nuclear power, may not reach full-scale deployment until the mid-2030s according to analysis from the United States Department of Energy.
