OpenAI Launches $500 Pro 500 Plan and Modifies Pro Tier
OpenAI introduced a $500 Pro 500 subscription for ultrafast computing and reopened its $200 Pro plan with reduced usage limits.
OpenAI announced a new high-tier subscription called the Pro 500 plan during its Tuesday DevDay event. Costing $500 per month, the plan provides access to ultrafast computing for GPT-6 Astra in ChatGPT Work and Codex, with the latter promising an 8x increase in speed. The tier offers the company's highest usage limits to prevent coders from hitting token caps.
Simultaneously, the company is reopening its $200 per month Pro plan to new subscribers on September 30, following a pause that began on September 10. However, the plan's allowance is being downgraded. Compute is being halved to 10x that of the $20 Plus plan, and weekly chat messages for GPT-6 Pro are decreasing from 200 to 100. OpenAI claims these revised calculations will equate to half the API spend of the previous version of the plan.
OpenAI stated it will not reinstate the five-hour limit and intends to add unspecified features that do not count toward usage limits. Existing subscribers will receive a one-time credit during the transition. The company expects that ongoing model improvements will enable subscribers to increase their productivity over time.
